Snap Inc. Rakuten Viber is partnering to bring Augmented Reality filters to Viber’s messaging app. The new feature will be Viber Lenses Powered by Snap added to the messaging platform. It is in cooperation with Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat. Moreover, it enables AR video messaging as well as photos on Viber for the very first time. On Wednesday, the company launched 30 “Viber Lenses.”
Also, it includes an underwater lens, animal masks, silly cat interactions, Viber characters, and more.
According to the CEO of Rakuten Viber, Djamel Agaiya,’ We’re excited to bring the Snap camera to Viber users.”
Through this partnership, we want to empower the creativity of our users with AR. And we’re looking forward to inspiring new fun-filled ways for people to keep in touch with their friends and family members.
Viber Plans to Add 20 Snap Lens Each Quarter
Besides this, Viber also unveiled plans to add around 20 lenses each quarter. That is with partnering with other businesses to create Viber-branded lenses. The World Health Organization, FC Barcelona, and the World Wildlife Fund are the first to offer new lenses on the app.
Viber says, “The ability to offer sponsored and branded Lenses will provide an additional revenue stream to Viber. As business partners will be able to create custom Lenses for their communities on the platform.”
By adopting the creative kit, bitmoji, and camera kit of Snap, Viber focused on adding features. These features are AR overlays for photos, videos, integration with bitmoji, and beautification features. According to Director, Camera Platform Partnership at Snap Inc, Elliot Solomon, the partnership with Viber is a win-win.
The Android as well as iOS beta version of the app will be available starting from June 30 in more than 30 countries.
According to Viber, all Android users will access the complete features by the end of August as they roll out the features to more regions.
